HOLIDAYING IN CORNWALL

Take a break in Cornwall -- a place of historical beauty...

The West Cornwall coastline fans out to the north and south along great corrugated cliffs, while the rocky spine of the peninsula wends its way eastwards through a timeless landscape of tawny moorland, lush woodland and serene, enchanting villages.

The landscape is rich with the ancient burial chambers and stone circles of a people of provenance whose spirit still seems to cast a breathtaking spell over all who visit there.

The locations, people and sensations are those that you might visit in your day-dreams. Carefree Cornish holidays on golden sands; fresh and clear air, vast blue skies and dolphins playing openly in the clear warm water.

Add a wide range of festivals to the mix: enthralling outdoor activities, art, culture and heritage, unique covered attractions, the warmth of old-fashioned pubs, the hearty delight of new Cornish cuisine, (including real Cornish pasties) and the unbeatable company of the Cornish people. It's a recipe for a memorable holiday.

West Cornwall starts and ends at Belerion, ancient ‘Sea of Storms’, the Land’s End of today. This is where Atlantic swells, born thousands of miles away pound against Cornwall's tall cliffs of golden granite sending great showers of spray into the air. Yet, on calm, hazy summer days, that same ocean ripples at your toes like a lake, its mirrored surface reflecting the crystal-clear light and vivid colours that make West Cornwall one of the world’s most exhilarating holiday destinations.

Penzance is an ideal town to explore on foot. The main street is Market Jew Street, a busy shopping area with a flanking terrace that leads gently uphill to the handsome classical building of the Market House. Behind Market House is Market Place from where the other shopping streets of Causewayhead and Alverton Street lead off. From here the olde worlde Chapel Street winds down between attractive buildings that include the lavishly painted and ornamental Egyptian House, the 14th century Turk's Head Inn, the Admiral Benbow restaurant and the final flourish of the tall tower of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin.
